PRINCIPLE FUNCTION

An elder is responsible for personal holiness and the care, oversight, leadership, and shepherding of Sweet Home Baptist Church of Round Rock. The Council of Elders serves as the executive governing body of the Church. They are responsible for policy decisions with regard to the affairs, functions, direction and business of the Church and strive to make decisions that reflect a clear biblical perspective and are in the best interest of the Church. They are accountable to God on behalf of the church.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PERSONAL 
Each elder must be personally committed to maintain:
 
· The qualifications of an elder as found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
· A daily prayer life.
· A commitment to regular study of God’s Word (1 Timothy 5:17).
· Financial stewardship (i.e. honoring the Lord with the first fruits of all his increases and displaying his financial commitment to the local church on the first day of the week).
 
CARE AND OVERSIGHT –
Each elder shall care for and oversee (Acts 20:28-29) the church by being involved in several of the following priorities:
 
A. Prayer (Acts 6:4)
Pray in worship services
Upon request, be available to pray for those in need.
 
B. The Ministry of the Word (Acts 6:4)
Guard the body of truth revealed in Scripture
Train/disciple selected men on a one-on-one basis
Attend various Ministry Team activities to show support and monitor the pulse of what is being taught.
 
LEADERSHIP/SHEPHERDING
– Leadership (Titus 1:5) and shepherding (1 Peter 5:2-3) by the Council of Elders will concentrate primarily in the following areas:
 
• Regularly attend called Chairman of Elders meetings (minimum of 75%).
• Attend Ministries Oversight Team and Stewardship Oversight Committee meetings as assigned.
• Give oversight to Strategic Ministry Plans.
•Assure that the church is being operated in a decent and orderly manner as outlined in the church’s Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Organizational Manual and Policies and Procedures Manual.
•Determine/resolve doctrinal issues as they arise.
•Resolve conflicts/disciplinary issues within the body.
•Attend corporate church gatherings (Prayer meetings, congregational meetings, potlucks, men’s retreats, etc.).
•Intermingle, be available and remain visible to church members and visitors.
•Follow up with visitors who request to speak to an elder.
